Dean Atta’s ‘I Am Nobody’s Nigger.’

2012 hasn’t had time to undo its boots and settle in the sofa and already good news is flying out its hat: after a little more than 18 years (!) two of the five men implicated in the death of Stephen Lawrence have been brought to justice. Hurrah teenage mutant ninja tortoise justice.

I’m pretty certain more than a few pieces will be written about this in the coming months, but first out the gate is poet and host Dean Atta, who takes yesterday’s bitter-sweet victory as a platform to address a certain unreclaimable word. Big ups are in order; have a listen.

Powerful stuff, I like the Public Enemy line. It is a pain to see what Hip Hop has become when you watch an old Arrested Development or Brand Nubian video.
