The Greatest Poem of 2011: by Anon, at the London Riots

“GET IT REAL, BLACK PEOPLE!”

The London riots, incited by the police’s slow response to the death of Mark Duggan, generated much confused comment; liberals, conservatives and racists all threw in their oars, while politicians returned slowly (and, one suspects, sheepishly) from holiday. But – courtesy of @mattkmoore at the Telegraph – then came 46 seconds of genius from an anonymous West Indian woman in Hackney, who said it all so brilliantly that the matter is closed. Here is the greatest piece of spoken word you’ll hear anywhere in 2011. FACT.
