Well, this is a surprise. Normally I abstain from poetry/dance hybrids. Nothing in my mind says ‘FAIL’ louder than a leotard/tights wearing performer reenacting a penguin’s epileptic fit in a creatively desperate bid to bring a stanza to life. I do see the potential in the two art-forms converging -people dancing to words is a good idea- but the examples I’ve come across have always fallen short. Until now.
In a nutshell: Cirque De Soleil craft brief yet compelling magic with Anthony Anaxagorou’s words. Unless you’re an Amon Tobin fan, click the 5.15 mark.
